So you got your shin tattooed and now you think you are going to die.
January 20, 2016
Oh hi. I haven't posted in quite I while I just noticed. So much has changed in the last wee bit lets chalk that up to life happening.
I have recently started at a new shop called Urge 2. Check the artists out here www.urge2.ca. The artists are all so good that I would gladly be tattooed by any one of them - I guess that is where this posts starts.
Yura drew me a BUNNY BIRD.
My weakness in tattoo life are bunny's. So when she was drawing this one in particular I had to have it. Fast forward to a cupple of days later and we are knee deep in making it a permanant MINE.
I hate getting tattooed. I make no excuses for it. I forget sometimes I am what other people would call "heavily tattooed" but let me tell you. It doesn't get easier. Sure, some spots are easier to deal with then otheres. Like for instance I would get my forearm tattooed all day long but would rather die then consider the back of my calf enjoyable. That being said I decided that I wanted to get this bunnybird as big as we could and I wanted it on my shin. God. Damn.
I'm gonna be transparent and say I used Dr. Knumb in hoping that it would allow me to be blissfully unaware of the pain while Yura made the outline. Uhhhh yeah...didn't leave that on long enough. Felt outline. Survived.
After the outline I applied this stuff called Face and Body blue gel. It is amazing. You put it on it takes 15 minutes to take effect and when we got back to tattooing I didn't feel a single thing. When I say that though I mean I didn't feel the needles. I did feel the increasing swelling and the incoming bruising.
The gel managed to allow me to finish this tattoo in one sitting. I think we started closer to 3pm and we waged on until just after 10pm. Yura did an amazing job and I love it so much. I think that I am close to 10% cooler now that I have it. Actually, correction - I was 10% cooler until the knumbing wore off.
So here is a photo of the finished beauty.
Here is a photo of him having a wee bleed inside of the tagaderm.
Have you guys ever used it before? Here is a quick definition of it I found to describe its use:
Tegaderm consists of a thin polyurethane membrane coated with a layer of an acrylic adhesive. The dressing, which is permeable to both water vapour and oxygen, is impermeable to micro-organisms and once in position, it provides an effective barrier to external contamination, whilst producing a moist environment at the surface of the wound by reducing water vapour loss from the exposed tissue. Under these conditions in shallow wounds, scab formation is prevented and epidermal regeneration takes place at an enhanced rate, compared with that which occurs in wounds treated with traditional dry dressings.
ANYWAYS take that stuff off slow - it hurts otherwise.
The night of the tattoo the knumbing wore off around 2AM. I think that is around the time I began to regret any and all life choices I have made to get me to this point. The swelling was in full swing, the wound was in full ouch and the blood pumping through it is still currently ruining my life. I can tell you that I did not sleep at all that night. At about 8 AM my boyfriend gave me one of his t3's that he had gotten when he had his wisdom teeth removed and I managed to get some sleep. Since that point however, the swelling pain has got my spirits at their lowest point yet. I am currently unable to go from laying down to sitting to standing without spending 45 minutes doing it and bawling my face off.
Lower leg tattoo swelling is the worst thing I have encountered so far in healing a tattoo. I am two days post application and am currently drafting a short will.
